Yamdrok Tso Lake, or Yamdrok Lake located in Nagarze County, is at an altitude of 4,441 meters above sea level.it is 130 kilometers fromeast to west and 70 kilometers from north to south.It is one of the three holy lakes in Tibet.Yamdrok Yumtso means swan pool in Tibetan language, being one of the three famous sacred lakes in Tibet and the largest inland lake north of the Himalayas. It has an elegant view, surrounded by snow capped mountains. Visitors would like to list the lake as a must go destination while going to Shigatse from Lhasa via the south route.Like mountains, lakes are considered sacred by Tibetan people, the principle being that they are the dwelling places of protective deities and therefore invested with special spiritual powers. Yamdrok Lake is one of four particularly holy lakes, thought to be divinatory; everyone from the Dalai Lama to local villagers makes pilgrimages there. It is considered sacred as one of the four `Great Wrathful Lakes` guarded by the goddess Dorje Gegkyi Tso.
